South Side Baptist Church in Weatherford Texas is no exception. Every event we host has snack time, at a minimum. Sometimes we go so far as to cater an entire multi-course meal! No matter what, Christ is the center of every gathering, and our incredible Pastor Josh and his wife Lee make absolute sure of it.

Our amazing leadership starts with the Merrells.

Josh and Lee Merrell have faithfully led South Side Baptist Church for almost two decades. They glue the entire church together. Involved in every single service, whether they’re feeling under the weather or not, they show up before anyone else and turn the lights off at the end of the night. They both serve without complaint; when the nursery is understaffed, when no one else can come in and clean, when the kitchen needs restocking, they both volunteer first. The church celebrated the couple’s anniversary of service recently and many members had sweet things to say about the hardworking Merrells.

Pastor Josh passionately preaches at every service, practically launching himself over the pulpit when he gets excited. It’s an absolute pleasure to listen to his well versed sermons. He keeps it exciting and very educational, usually teaching about Greek nuances in each passage so the congregation gets a full understanding of the verse’s meaning.

Miss Lee’s competitive and kind nature innately makes her able to connect with the children in the congregation. She taught Sunday School for a while and kept the children interested in learning about Jesus week in and week out. She gracefully directed the Christmas pageant, teaching the children Christmas carols and patiently helping them with lines. Her decorated Ladies’ Brunch table brought joy to so many with a crocheted floral bouquet centerpiece and wildflowers hanging from the ceiling. Miss Lee’s creativity and diligence allow her to accomplish any task she puts her mind to.

Our calendar is usually full of events like Fifth Sunday Fellowship, the Studebakers’ Potluck, Friend Day, Workers Banquet, S.N.A.C. (Sunday Night After Church), Bridal Showers, Baby Showers and much, much more! Each and every one of these events requires a different level of food service. All jokes aside, the activity at South Side Baptist never slows down. If you think for a minute that it’s been quiet at church, they’re probably gearing up behind the scenes for a major announcement. For children all the way through our Senior members, there is a place for everyone. We all join together as the same body of Jesus Christ in fellowship!
